A tutor with experience in your CAD software will likely spot those faster than searching forums. What a tutor actually does depends on the person. Some explain what went wrong and let the student fix it. Others redo a small piece of the model just to show a different way. No magic fix — just a second pair of eyes that knows where to look.

Learning CAD from scratch usually begins with defining what you need the software for — technical drawings, mechanical parts, assemblies, product design, or another specific task. The first sessions vary. One tutor might start with the workspace and a simple sketch. Another jumps straight to a small project — a bracket, a cover, or a basic part — and explains tools as needed. Some tutors avoid long lectures. They give the student a small task and step in when something fails. That way, the focus stays on what the student actually needs to do, not on every menu option.

The easiest way is to look past the general “CAD tutor” label and check what they actually work with. Someone using SolidWorks every day may not be the right fit if your work is in CATIA, AutoCAD, Siemens NX, or Fusion 360. Even when the principles are similar, the workflow can be very different. It also helps to see whether they work more with beginner training, production drawings, complex assemblies, surfacing, sheet metal, or simulation-driven design.
