About Course

This course is designed to familiarize you with KOMPAS-3D – Computer-Aided Design (CAD) solution for mechanical engineering.

KOMPAS-3D offers powerful functionality for project management, including handling thousands of sub-assemblies, parts and standard products. It supports all the 3D modeling capabilities that have become standard in CAD systems.

You will get familiar with the Kompas-3D interface and the basics operating priniciples in this CAD system.

You will create several 3D-models from scratch, including the bracket, the branch pipe and the regulator handle.

In this course, you will:

  • design parametric sketches,
  • add constraints to sketch elements to fully define them
  • use basic 3d modelling operations such as extrusion by direction, extrusion by path, and rotation to add volume,
  • edit your model by adding chamfers, fillets, and holes, mirroring model elements, deleting and editing existing elements
  • generate a drawing from the bracket 3D model, add annotations into the drawing and adjust it.

Finally, you will create a simple assembly using three ready-made components: the Crank Handle. You will learn how to:

  • add parts to the assembly,
  • to place them in the graphic area,
  • to assign matings to components,
  • to add balloons to the assembly components,
  • to generate the assembly drawing and edit it,
  • to create a custom report style and generate the Bill of Materials based on this report style and linked to the assembly.

What Will You Learn?

  • How to get the Kompas-3D trial version
  • How to work with 2D sketching
  • How to create a 3D-model using basic tools such as Extrusion Element, Revolution Element and Element by Path
  • How to create an assembly using ready-made parts and add annotations to the assembly
  • How to generate drawing views from the 3D model
  • How to create a custom Bill of Materials (BOM) linked to the 3D model

1. The Bracket Design
You’ll create a 3D model of the bracket from scratch, then automatically generate the drawing, adjust it, and add technical information to it.

2. The Branch Pipe
You will use the “Revolution Element” command, the “Element by Path” command using sketches as paths, and the “Mirrored array” command to create a symmetrical copy. Finally, you will use the “Shell” command to make the pipe hollow.

3. The Regulator Handle
You will know more how to deal with constraints. You will use the “Revolution Element” and the “Revolution Surface” commands, restrict the extrusion with the surface, try to use chamfers and fillets with different settings. You will add annotations to the model and generate the handle drawing.

4. The Crank Handle
You will create a simple assembly consisting of three components. You’ll also add balloons to the assembly and design a bill of materials based on a custom report style.
